StableCrete TM A product that’s acronym name is derived from STABILIZATION of CONCRETE. The name has Nothing to do with support or foundations, yet Everything to do with chemistry of concrete and the importance of understanding its role in longevity of all concrete structures. Concrete is thermodynamically unstable and begins to deteriorate as soon as it is exposed to Earths atmosphere. It is then the corrosion process begins the inevitable cycle that results in costly repair or complete failure of a structure. Concrete (a system of cement paste binding together aggregates to form artificial stone) is highly reactive to exposure conditions eventually affecting strength and eventual deterioration. The most common agents affecting a concrete are:
Moisture by far is the most deleterious event that triggers aggressive chemical reactions in hydrated cement paste leading to chemical and electrochemical influences compromising the integrity of re-enforcing components. Although a concretes Microstructure (gel-pore or capillary) system may be the most likely cause of stress, this is but one of the most common factors involving corrosion. It was not until the 1970,s era that a thorough understanding of “Carbonation “came about. Carbonation begins on any concrete surface almost immediately, and the lowering of a concrete pH is only the start of a host of events causing concern. Structural Engineers and Architects interested in preservation and construction of Green Building envelopes have turned to our science for the answers to monumental problems in Concrete. We hope you will also. As you navigate our site, keep in mind not all topics are covered in depth. Please feel free to Email or call with specific inquiries by going to the Contact Us page at the end. The PDF files contained herein are a reference and may be reprinted directly from the page for your use. It is our hope you exit the site with a better understanding of concrete structures and the problems with them in general. Please realize that it is essential to erect and design structures to control or compensate for chemical reactivity well into the future. Concrete is not inert!! Stabilize your concrete With STABLECRETE StableCrete™ is a USDA approved concrete repair and preserving product manufactured for and distributed exclusively by Conselcor™. This product is also EPA Approved and is used extensively in fresh and sea water environments protecting concrete bulkheads and seawalls from degradation by chloride induced corrosion on re-enforcing steel components. StableCrete permanently waterproofs and preserves concrete, brick, stucco and all masonry surfaces with one easy application, and is usually applied by a concrete sub-contractor or painter on site. Used by a variety of corporations and government agencies, it protects and extends the life any concrete product which contains eleven or more percent of Portland Cement in the mix.
